Over the last few years, there has been a noticeable trend in Burlington’s housing boom including McMansions and apartment buildings. With that development comes the question of how much and what type of housing does Burlington want?
Last year Town Meeting voted to provide funding to the Housing Partnership Committee (HPC) for a Housing Needs Assessment.
- The HPC has been working with the regional planning group MAPC to complete this assessment. The assessment will be completed this summer with the results being presented to Town Meeting. I have been working with the Housing Partnership on many housing initiatives and will continue to advocate for more diverse housing options and resources to assist our community with housing needs.
- Massachusetts has also set forward the Housing Choice Initiative including new zoning regulations for the MBTA communities. These regulations and guidelines are currently on the forefront of discussions with the Planning Board, Land Use and the Zoning Bylaw Review Committees.
Changes are coming, and residents should have a voice in how Burlington can best address options that make Burlington housing accessible for all.
